Introduction The Journal which forms part of the book "twicks twicks out twice The Successful Recovery of a Stroke Survivor" is proving to be an intriguing source for studies of language, particularly written. It includes jargon generated at the start of recovery and normal material later. The whole Journal has been transcribed and forms the second half of the book. The transcription and selected sections of the writing can be made available as scanned images of the original material. This study material is not annotated; that is done only in the book. Existing work In February 2006, Richard Pickard delivered a lecture to undergraduates at UEA. The students were in their second year of the course "Speech and Language Therapy", and the lecture was in the series "Listening to Users: Personal Insights". Richard described his experience of having a stroke and the course of his recovery during the succeeding two years. With illustrations from his Journal, he showed how his control of language had progressed. The timelines in the book (pp. 54-57) are adapted from material in this lecture. A team at University of East Anglia (UEA) is already preparing a paper - by way of a case study - for peer review and publication in an academic journal.
